3. Updating Your Twitter Profile

Now that you have a Twitter account, you can SET UP YOUR PROFILE — or, if you already had a Twitter account, you might want to take a minute to update your profile. To edit your profile, go to Twitter.com and log in if you are not already logged in.

Add avatar image. Start by uploading an avatar image. Just click on the avatar that shows a camera icon to "add an avatar." You'll be prompted to upload a photo or to take a photo with your webcam.

Edit your profile. After you have added an avatar, your avatar photo will now appear in the upper right-hand corner of any Twitter webpage. To access your profile, click on your avatar in the upper right-hand corner and select "view profile." Then click on the Edit Profile button to finishing editing your profile.

You can type a brief bio in the Bio box, along with a Location and a link to your Website. There are other ways you can customize your profile (see bottom of this post for more information), but for now you can just stick to the essentials:

To see the Bios of some other people at OU, take a look at this list of OUTechExpo Buddies; these are staff and faculty at OU who use Twitter, and who helped out with Twitter Bootcamp in January 2016: OUTechExpo Buddies.

When you are done entering your profile information, press "Save."

NEXT STEP => You can add a banner image later if you want, but that's the essential profile information you need for now. You're almost ready to start tweeting, but it's a good idea to adjust some Twitter settings first.

Curious...? In addition to the profile image (avatar), you can also include a header image. This needs to be a large image; you can find out more and browse an image gallery at About.Twitter.com:
